## About

AutoShelf is a rules-based file organizer for macOS 14 Sonoma or later that runs silently in your menu bar. You define conditions like file type, source URL, download app, size, age, filename, text content, or photo EXIF data, then choose an action: move, copy, rename, tag, trash, archive, or optimize images. AutoShelf applies these rules automatically to every new file that lands in your chosen folders.

The app includes Quick Action Zones where you drop files onto a zone and the work completes instantly, with no dialogs or per-file setup. Before any rule runs, you can preview it with a dry run to see exactly which files match and what would happen to each one. Five built-in templates cover common use cases like organizing Downloads by file type, auto-deleting old DMGs, or cleaning your Desktop weekly.

AutoShelf runs entirely offline with no analytics or tracking. It ships with a command-line interface for scripting rules and an MCP server so local AI assistants can access your file organization rules. The app works on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

AutoShelf reads inside files to route them by content, not just filename. It extracts EXIF data from photos to sort by camera model, lens, ISO, or GPS location. The dry run preview shows exactly which files match before anything moves. It runs offline with no tracking, and includes a CLI and MCP server for automation and AI integration.

Problem
Downloads, Desktop, and screenshots folders fill up constantly with files that need organizing but sorting them manually takes time and effort.

Solution
Set rules once based on file properties or content, then AutoShelf automatically moves, renames, tags, or trashes new files that match those conditions.
