## About

subtitle.im is a browser extension that extracts transcripts from YouTube videos using their available captions, including auto-generated ones. You can search for keywords within a transcript, jump to matching moments in the video, and copy or download the full text or selected passages as a TXT file.

The extension gives you control over how captions appear. You can set it to follow YouTube's caption state, auto-open captions when available, or auto-close them. It detects burned-in subtitles (text that's part of the video image) and handles duplicate captions according to your preferences. You can create channel-specific and video-specific rules for caption behaviour, though these require a Pro plan.

subtitle.im runs as a Chrome extension. The transcript panel opens on the right side of the YouTube page, letting you turn videos into searchable notes you can revisit later.

Subtitle.im stands out by letting you search within YouTube transcripts to find and jump to specific moments, then copy or download what you need. The extension detects burned-in subtitles embedded in video frames and handles duplicate captions automatically based on rules you set per video or channel. You can control whether captions auto-open, auto-close or follow YouTube's defaults, and manage multilingual subtitles according to your preferences.

Problem
Finding a specific moment in a long YouTube video is slow, and you lose the information once you close the page.

Solution
Search transcripts for keywords to jump to exact moments, then copy or download the text as a permanent note.
