About
Groundrule is an engineering standards tool that keeps one rulebook for your team and writes it into the instructions Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot and Codex follow. Rules live scattered across review comments, wikis and agent files; Groundrule centralizes them, syncs them into every agent file and CI system, and checks every code change against them.
You start by defining rules from proven packs (security, languages, infrastructure), importing existing standards from repositories, wikis, Notion or pull request reviews, or describing a new rule in one sentence for AI to draft with examples and checks. Each rule gets an owner, a rollout stage, and moves forward on evidence from your own code rather than hope. The platform works with GitHub Actions, GitLab CI and MCP servers, and the open-source CLI runs checks locally and in CI without uploading source code.
Groundrule charges per active contributor (anyone who committed to a connected repository in the last 90 days), not per rule. The Free plan covers up to 5 contributors with one rulebook across 3 repositories. Team plan at $15 per contributor adds unlimited repositories, full evidence history and hosted checks. Business plan at $29 per contributor includes compliance exports, signed check results and priority support.
Groundrule syncs one rulebook into every agent file and CI system across your repositories, rather than keeping separate copies. Rules roll out in stages on evidence from your code. AI features (drafting standards, finding rules in documents) always produce proposals that a person accepts; AI never changes the rulebook on its own.
- Problem
- Teams already have rules, but they live scattered across review comments, engineering handbooks and dozens of slightly different agent files. Coding agents only follow what they are told, so rules that leak across three places never reach them consistently.
- Solution
- Groundrule centralizes rules into one rulebook, syncs it into every agent file and CI system, and checks every change against it. Rules move through stages from advise to enforce, backed by evidence from your own code.
