The short version

  • Browsing needs no account and sets no tracking cookies.
  • A counted click stores a daily hash that cannot be reversed. We keep no raw IP address.
  • Card details stay with Dodo Payments; we never see them.
  • We do not sell data. Ask help@whatisnew.today to see or delete yours.

This summary helps you read the page. The numbered sections below are what applies.

1.Who we are

What’s New Today is run by Ashish Sharma, an independent developer, at Bengaluru, Karnataka 560100, India. Ashish Sharma is also the grievance officer and the contact for personal data: help@whatisnew.today.

2.What we collect

We collect only what the service needs:

DataWhat exactlyWhy
AccountEmail address; a display name, handle and avatar if you add themTo sign you in with an emailed code and show who made a listing
ListingsText, images, links, pricing, tags, demo video links and launch stories you submitTo publish the listing
VotesWhich account voted for which product, and whenTo count and weight votes
PaymentsCustomer ID, order status and amounts from Dodo PaymentsTo deliver what you bought. We never see or store card numbers
NewsletterEmail address and the date you confirmed itTo send the Monday email you asked for

3.What a counted click records

Every outbound product link passes through /go/ so we can count it. For each click we record:

  • the listing and the page the click came from;
  • the referring host and any UTM parameters;
  • an approximate country, from Cloudflare’s edge;
  • a daily hash of IP address and browser that cannot be reversed and changes every day.

We store no raw IP address. The hash only lets us leave out repeat clicks on the same day and known bots. How we count clicks

4.Cookies

We set three cookies: a session cookie when you sign in, a functional cookie that remembers light or dark appearance, and one that remembers which listings you visited through our links for 30 days, so you can upvote them (votes need a visit first). We use no analytics or advertising cookies and load no third-party analytics scripts, so there is no cookie banner. We honour Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control for page-view and impression beacons.

Some listings include a maker's demo video from YouTube, Vimeo or Loom. Nothing loads from that service until you press play. Once you do, the video plays in that service's player (YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, Vimeo with Do Not Track) and their privacy policy applies to it.

5.Why we are allowed to use it

  • Contract: accounts, listings and payments.
  • Legitimate interest: click counting in aggregate, fraud and vote-abuse prevention, link and badge checks.
  • Consent: the newsletter, which you can leave in one click.

6.How long we keep it

DataKept for
AccountUntil you delete it; removed on request straight away
Click records with the daily hashAbout 90 days, then kept only as daily totals
VotesAs long as the listing is up
Log of emails we sent you (type, subject, time)180 days
Payment records8 years, as Indian tax and accounting law requires
Audit log of editorial actions2 years

7.Who receives it

We share data only with the services that run What’s New Today for us:

  • Cloudflare: hosting, DNS, the click redirect and email delivery;
  • Dodo Payments: checkout, receipts and refunds, as merchant of record.

We do not sell personal data and do not share it with advertisers. Sponsors see click totals, never visitors.

8.International transfers

Cloudflare runs a global network, so data may be processed outside your country. Where the law requires it, transfers rely on the safeguards in Cloudflare’s and Dodo Payments’ data processing terms, including standard contractual clauses.

9.Your rights

You can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, or object to how we use it. Write to help@whatisnew.today; we answer within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

10.Children

What’s New Today is not meant for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
