About
Ledge is a Mac utility that turns your notch into a shelf for temporarily holding files. Drag any file up to the notch and it catches and stores it there, showing a preview, clean name and type badge for each item. The shelf stays hidden as a hairline until you need it again.
What makes Ledge different is how it handles the handoff. When you drag a file from the shelf to an app, Ledge rewrites the transfer in flight so each destination gets exactly what it expects. Drop a screenshot on a terminal and it becomes a quoted file path, typed in for you. Drop the same screenshot on Slack and it arrives as an attachment ready to send. You can set rules per app to decide the format automatically.
You choose which apps appear as destinations on the shelf, like Chrome, Slack, Terminal, VS Code and Figma. Fold in folders so drops land in the right place with the right name. Open the shelf by pressing Space, clicking the notch, or tapping the cutout itself. Ledge stores everything locally with no account or service required.
Ledge rewrites file handoffs in flight so each destination receives the right format automatically. A screenshot becomes a path for terminals, an attachment for Slack, or a PNG for design tools. You set rules per app and the shelf handles the conversion as you drop.
- Problem
- Files pile up across the desktop, Downloads folder and browser tabs with no single place to collect them temporarily before sending to the right app.
- Solution
- Ledge catches dragged files in a shelf at the notch, shows previews and type badges, and automatically converts each file to the format each destination app expects.
