About
Shoji is a privacy screen for Mac that covers everything on your display with a single keyboard shortcut. Press Command-L and paper-soft doors slide shut over all your windows on every connected display. Touch ID or your Mac password opens it again, with every window exactly where you left it.
Unlike the macOS lock screen, Shoji doesn't put your Mac to sleep or shuffle your windows. Your music keeps playing, downloads continue, and your apps stay running behind the screen. The keyboard is locked so nothing you or anyone else types reaches your applications. You can also blur your entire screen, blur only the active window, keep certain apps like Messages and Mail blurred until you use them, or lock just the frontmost app.
Shoji works on macOS 14 or later on Apple silicon and Intel Macs. It costs $14 as a one-time purchase with free updates, and you can try it free for 24 hours before buying.
Shoji keeps your Mac running and windows in place while a privacy screen covers your display, unlike the standard macOS lock screen which sleeps your Mac and rearranges windows. It offers five modes: full lock, blur screen, focus blur, private apps, and app lock.
- Problem
- The macOS lock screen puts your Mac to sleep and shuffles your windows, making it inconvenient for quick privacy when stepping away from your desk.
- Solution
- Shoji draws a privacy screen over your display with one keystroke while keeping your Mac running and windows in place. Touch ID opens it instantly.
